Real Talk: Q&A with Eva

Today we'd like to introduce you to eva, a beautiful athleisure brand based in LA, and focus on sustainability. Eva Su, founder and director of eva, shares her brand's story and answers some of our questions!

Can you tell me a little bit about your journey as an entrepreneur and how you got to starting eva?

I studied fashion merchandising & marketing at FIDM, interned and worked in fashion PR, marketing, wholesale, styling, etc. I always knew that I wanted to do my own thing eventually, so I like to think that all this experience prepared me for the challenges I faced when I decided it was time to chase after that dream! The inspiration comes from some of my favorite closet staples, and I wanted to remake these items in a way that would benefit my health and the environment. I'm very conscious about the products I use on my skin, food I eat, etc. so I wanted to incorporate that lifestyle into my brand, and make others more aware of how important sustainability is!

How do you incorporate sustainability to your business?

We try to incorporate sustainability in all aspects of our brand - from the materials, labels, packaging, to making sure our products are being ethically produced. You can read more about our sustainable practices here. Be sure to check out our blog as well - it covers several sustainable topics!

Do you donate to charity?

Yes! A percentage of your purchase will benefit the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. We decided on this organization as health & sustainability go hand-in-hand, and cancer has affected my sister.

How would you describe your personal style?

I used to be the ultimate girly-girl - always on top of the latest trends and accessories were big for me. While this will always be a part of my style, it has definitely evolved since starting a brand that caters to a casual lifestyle, on top of being pregnant, the pandemic and being a new mom. In other words, who has the time or effort to dress up these days!? My style now is definitely more laid-back, while still looking cute of course!!

Congratulations on your beautiful baby! You're such a boss babe! Is it hard to be a mum and running your own business?

Thank you! :) It has definitely been a challenge but the good thing about being my own boss is that the hours are flexible so it's all still manageable!

How has the pandemic impacted your brand?

Our launch was postponed, but with everyone working from home & quarantining, there was a serious need for comfy clothes! We also started selling masks, so the pandemic has sort of benefitted the business in a weird way!

What’s next for eva?

Our next collection is in the works! We are hoping to release it early 2021 - stay tuned ;)

What’s your advice for women wanting to start their own businesses?

Do your research before making any major decisions, and don't be afraid to speak up about the things you're passionate about when working with others, or ask "dumb" questions!
